What do I Stand For?

The three beautiful towns of Vermont House District Caledonia One are Barnet, Ryegate, and Waterford. In this community, we value the splendor of nature, we honor the dignity of hard work, and we fiercely defend our kids’ futures. We truly know how to look out for each other, and we care for our neighbors in need. We have a lot of lessons to teach to the rest of Vermont, America, and the whole Earth. Our towns contain the wisdom and knowledge of families that have lived here for many generations. We also welcome new neighbors, from every corner of the globe, to join the endless quilt that is made by our proud history. We are farmers, teachers, veterans, builders, nurses, athletes, scientists, pastors, mechanics, artists, electricians, musicians, engineers, authors, plumbers, doctors, welders, and even astronomers. Small towns like ours can be brave, nimble, and bold in trying new ways of doing things: we are laboratories of democracy, and bubbling springs of economic opportunity. I believe that, together, we can create good-paying jobs and affordable housing in our village centers so that our kids won’t have to go far to make a living. I believe that we can tackle climate change by finding the sustainable practices and new technologies that will also make forestry and farming prosperous, and profitable, for generations to come. The compassion that we share for each other can be harnessed to ensure that victims of abuse, substance use disorders, mental health crises, and endemic poverty are never allowed to slip through the cracks. I will protect the high standards, choice, and local control of education that has resulted in schools with stellar students and excellent reputations. I will defend every Vermonter’s right to be the person that they were meant to be, and to choose their own destiny.
